Six Realistic Goals to Set for Therapy.
How to Move Forward.
Navigating therapy can be challenging; knowing what to do or say isn't always straightforward. Remember, personal growth isn't a linear journey but an ongoing exploration towards wholeness and self-discovery. Here are five meaningful goals to consider setting for yourself in therapy:
Show up. Going to weekly therapy is half the work and should be considered a huge win.
Learn how to set and maintain boundaries. Setting boundaries is uncomfortable and that’s ok! Learning to tolerate the discomfort of not pleasing others is essential for your well-being.
Decrease daily negative self-talk. A lot of times we don’t even realize we’re doing it. If you’re feeling flooded by negative self talk ask yourself if these are things you’d say to a close friend?
Increase self-care practices and solidify a wellness routine. Create a wellness routine that nourishes you. This could include activities like yoga, singing in the car, exercising, pursuing hobbies, keeping a gratitude journal, or enjoying weekly coffee dates with friends.
Recognize negative behavioral patterns and begin to change them. This can be challenging, as it involves examining and confronting aspects of ourselves that may be difficult to face.
Emotional Regulation. Life will inevitably throw challenges your way. These moments offer valuable opportunities to deepen your relationship with yourself and others. Remember, the goal of therapy isn’t to eliminate negative emotions, but to help you return to a calm and regulated state more easily.
